Enillwr! Winner!

The National Eisteddfod is an annual festival celebrating Welsh language and culture. It is held in a different location every year, alternating between north and south Wales, and features a week-long programme packed full of performances, talks, competitions, activities and stalls. The famous ‘Chairing of the Bard’ ceremony honours the winner of the prestigious prize for poetry in a traditional Welsh metre. In 2025, the National Eisteddfod was held near Wrexham.

The Eisteddfod also includes writing competitions for Welsh learners, which are recognised with a special ceremony during the week. I entered the Open Level category with a short piece on the theme ‘Rant Heb Regi’ – a rant without swearing! The judge was Tudur Owen, the comedian, actor and presenter, and I was delighted that my rant came out on top!
